Something for the Weekend?
We hoped to have our new “Something for the Weekend” specials out on Friday night until our smallest person was diagnosed with Mumps.
The weekend then has passed in a bit of a blur and our Weekend Specials this week are here today ….. better late then never!
Our specials are small runs of fleece from small holders with small flocks who spoil their sheep and so produce some really good fibre.
We will add something different every Friday night and post out on Monday morning – great for a super fast fibre fix.
Today's specials are some scrumptious Shetland in moor it or cream

and some Southdown lambs fleece that is super soft and bouncy and washes like a dream.

Both are up on the shop in the website www.gentlemanfarmers.co.uk.
In other news “The Dartmoor Tweed Explore Wool” boxes are flying off the shelf and we have some newly clean and processed nettle fibre harvested early last summer to add to the mix. It’s very fine and reminds of candy floss so a good test of skills and wool mixes.

We are introducing “Devon Made” boxes (Mark says as in “Devon knows how they made it so woolly - think Ambrosia custard without the custard?”)

Each box will have 500 grams of fibre from our rarest Devon Breeds. So the one of above have Devon Closewool, ultra rare South Devon, Devon and Cornwall Longwool curls and some Grey Face waves.
As some of you know we work with Dartmoor Tweed. Their mission in life is to raise the profile of heritage Devon breeds by finding a new use for their fleece in Devon owned and grown cloth. Once Exeter was the richest wool city in England circa 17-1800’s and the reason was our warm climbs nurtured sheep reared on sun drenched lush grassland that leant itself to producing unique blends of wool for unique globally renowned fabric. Our Dartmoor Greyfaces, Whitefaces, Devon and Cornwall Longwools and Devon Closewools all exist today and we even have found more recently a small flock of South Devon’s hanging out by the coast.
All good things to try – Have a good week!
